First Ever Sale on my Etsy site!

Thanks to the folks at Etsy on Sale, it's now easy to plan a store wide sale with items automatically discounted. YAY! So to celebrate, I'm having a week long sale on my etsy site. Everything listed is 20% off! To get to the site, you have to go to my etsy on sale site.

The sale start at 9am on Saturday October 23rd and ends on Sunday October 31st at 9pm.

As part of the promotion, I'm also doing a special sale for my Facebook Group fans. If you are based in Vancouver and come down to Portobello West Market on Sunday October 31st, I'll give you 20% off anything over $20.00. The Big One . . .

I do a lot of markets and events around the "holidays", but the huge 2-day Portobello West Fashion and Art Market is one of the best!

This year I will have all of my best pieces displayed in a booth right at the entrance, including a preview of my Spring 2010 line which uses a new technique of collage images inside the lockets (as shown above). But hey, never mind me, come out to meet over 110 local artists and designers and shop for one-of-a-kind fashion and art in one of Vancouver's most impressive indoor venues.

I heart designers using sustainable materials

While I was selling my jewels this past September at the Calgary Portobello West market, I got a chance to roam around a bit and discovered some great designers using eco-friendly/sustainable materials in their designs.

It's a theme close to my heart, as the developer of the Green Christmas Market here in Vancouver.

First up is the one I was most excited to see. Abeego! Designer Toni Desrosiers came up with the idea for a re-usable, sustainable, food-safe alternative to plastic wrap! She impregnates hemp/cotton fabric with natural beeswax. I bought some and it works like a charm. Just rinse off in cold soapy water after use - hot will melt the wax. Plastic is the devil and this makes it a little easier to get away from using it.

I also bought a snappy striped hat from Happy Planet Hats. They make super cute fabric hats with perfect little brims and they are all made with recycled fabrics. What's not to love?
Lastly, I totally heart Natalie Gerber bags! I got one of her evening bags at last years market, it's made from upholstery fabric off-cuts. This year, I was struck with these fantastic bags made from thrifted men's suits of all things. Even the tie is used!
Designer's like this are so inspiring to me. They're not just being eco because they are hand-making things, they are totally taking it to the next level by using sustainable materials. That's commitment.

Designers and customers alike are all abuzz about the big opening weekend of Portobello West Fashion and Art Market this weekend! Come join over one hundred of talented, BC-based designers, artists and like-minded people. There hasn't been a market since mid-december and everyone is starting to jones for their monthly fashion and art fix.

BuenoStyle will be showcasing some brand new designs for 2009 including the hand-painted Patina collection.

Make a day of it; there's fantastic gourmet hot dogs, teas & coffes, and the best crepes in Vancouver. Support your local economy!
